Electronic Waste Disposal

Electronic Waste - ComputersAs of February, 2006, the State of California prohibits the disposing of electronic waste, fluorescent tubes, consumer batteries and mercury thermostats into the trash. Known as "Universal Waste", these wastes are health and environmental hazards if they are improperly disposed of.

Examples of prohibited wastes:

Electronic Waste: Computer equipment, telephones, cell phones, answering machines, radios, stereo equipment, tape recorders and players, microwave ovens, VCR and CD players and recorders.

Mercury Containing Waste: Fluorescent tubes, thermostats, high-intensity lights, sodium vapor lamps, metal halide lamps.

Consumer Batteries: Including carbon-zinc and alkaline batteries, rechargeable batteries, NiCad batteries, lithium batteries.

Disposal of Computer Monitors and Televisions

Computer monitors and television screens are often made with cathode ray tubes - (CRT's). CRT's contain large amounts of the hazardous material lead. New environmental laws forbid the disposal of CRT's into landfills.

Electronic Waste - ComputersIt is important for businesses and property owners to understand that drivers from Vallejo Garbage Service will tag any container that contains CRT's and leave them unemptied.

The business owner or property owner must remove the CRT's and then face additional charges for special collection of the tagged trash. Please help us save you from these extra charges and frustration!

Make sure that your employees or tenants understand that CRT's must be recycled. Encourage them to call Vallejo Garbage Service, Inc. at 552-3110 to arrange for a driver to collect monitors or televisions for recycling. This service is easy and convenient.

The cost for the service depends on the size of the screen. Pickup of a 17 inch or smaller screen is $20.00. Screens that are larger than 17 inches but smaller than 36 inches cost $25.00. Collection of screens larger than 36inches is priced on a case-by-case basis. Call us for complete information: 552-3110.
